About

Remembers window positions per display setup. Auto-restore when displays change or apps relaunch.

Who It's For

Stay is for Mac users who have a recurring annoyance: windows moving around when displays are connected or disconnected, or apps launching in the wrong position. Stay silently remembers each window's position per-app and per-display configuration, and restores them when things get disrupted. It's free, no-subscription, and does one thing well. Laptop users who occasionally connect to a dock will find Stay solves their problem without any configuration.

How It Works

Stay monitors display configuration changes and app launch/quit events. For each display configuration, it maintains a map of app → window position. When you "store windows" (via menu bar or keyboard shortcut), Stay saves the current state. On subsequent launches or display reconnects, it uses these saved positions to restore windows automatically. App-launch restore means windows that reopen in unexpected places are corrected back to where you last intentionally placed them.

Compared to Similar Tools

Compared to Display Maid ($5.99), Stay is free but has a simpler UI and less fine-grained per-app control. Both tools solve the same display-reconnect problem. Compared to Workspace+ ($2.99/mo or $14.99 lifetime), Stay is free and focused only on position restoration; Workspace+ adds full workspace snapshots with browser tab restoration. For users who just need windows to stay where they put them, Stay's free model makes it the obvious starting point.
