About

InfiniDesk creates multiple virtual desktops, each with its own layout of files, folders, and wallpaper. Unlike window managers, it manages desktop icon visibility—switch between project-specific 'Desktop Views' from the menu bar. Follow Spaces Mode (macOS 14+) automatically changes desktop contents when switching Spaces. File-safe: only changes visibility, never moves or deletes files.

Who It's For

InfiniDesk is for Mac users who work with many files and folders on their desktop and want to organize them into project-specific views — without actually moving or reorganizing them on disk. It's a desktop icon manager, not a window manager: it doesn't control app windows at all. The value is in "Desktop Views" — named configurations that show different subsets of your desktop files and folders, so your "design project" view shows design assets and your "coding project" view shows code-related folders, even though all files live in the same place on disk.

How It Works

InfiniDesk tracks which files and folders are visible on your macOS desktop per named "Desktop View." Switching views changes what's visible without moving, deleting, or altering any files — it only toggles visibility. Each view gets its own wallpaper. Follow Spaces Mode (macOS 14 Sonoma and later) integrates with native Spaces: switching to a different Space automatically activates the corresponding Desktop View, linking your window workspace and desktop icon view together. The freemium model offers a limited number of views for free; additional views require the $12.99 upgrade.

Compared to Similar Tools

InfiniDesk occupies a unique niche — no other tool on this list manages desktop icon visibility. It solves a different problem than window managers or snap tools. The closest conceptual analogy is a Spaces-aware desktop organization layer. For users with cluttered desktops who can't find the right file for the current project, InfiniDesk provides a straightforward, file-safe solution.

Requirements

  • macOS 13 Ventura or later (Follow Spaces Mode requires macOS 14 Sonoma)
  • Free tier available; $12.99 one-time for unlimited Desktop Views
  • Available from infinidesk.app

Getting Started

Download from infinidesk.app and launch. Create your first Desktop View from the menu bar icon, select which files and folders should be visible in it, and save. Create additional views for each project context. Enable Follow Spaces Mode in Preferences if you use macOS Spaces.
